Outerwear Undies – Trend Reached a New High

“Outerwear Undies” have been a fashion trend around for a while, but they have recently been seen more frequently, notably by famous people.

If you’ve been to London or France, you’re about to see what everyone’s wearing underneath – Outerwear Undies! And we really should have anticipated this.

It doesn’t matter how you put it. Outerwear Undies are the must-have trend for autumn 2022. It needs to be clarified how or why, but the trend has become much more popular this season than in previous ones. You can be sure that celebrities are to blame.

When Bella Hadid wore a pair of white mini shorts with platform UGG boots in September, she epitomized Hollywood’s new preference for dressing down rather than dressing up. Then, Kylie Jenner joined the bandwagon by attending the Loewe presentation during Paris Fashion Week wearing a grey trench coat with a white tank top and matching underwear bearing the logos of the luxury brands.

Several weeks later, her older sister Kourtney Kardashian Barker shared a series of mirror photos on Instagram in honor of her husband’s Blink 182 reunion tour. The newlywed was photographed wearing a hoodie from the band over a sheer dress that revealed her black undergarments. For W Magazine’s 50th anniversary gala, model Emily Ratajakowski walked the red carpet in a see-through metallic fishnet gown, bare silk underwear, and a matching triangle bra.

Celebs have been using revealing lingerie to make a fashion statement for decades. During the late 1980s and early 2000s, this style was frequently employed to attract media coverage.

In her performances, Selena Quintanilla wore the now-iconic bustier top, and high-rise trousers made popular by the likes of Madonna, whose Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra grabbed headlines in 1990. Kate Moss’s sheer maxi slip dress at the Elite Model Agency’s Look of the Year party garnered a lot of attention, and in 1996, Princess Diana stunned in an iconic navy Dior slip at the Met Gala.

Not long after, famous people like Janet Jacket, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, and many more adopted these trends for their own personal use.

Also, those who were alive for the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards will never forget Lil’ Kim’s purple pasty appearance. That was a historical event, even though no one in the modern world would bat an eye at it.

Let’s fast forward to the year 2022 when a slew of ’90s fashions have made a comeback (some of which have been enthusiastically embraced, while others have been met with a collective groan). Bras, bralettes, underwear, lingerie, and sheer or laced slips are making a comeback as outerwear. The catch? The effect is less of a peek-a-boo and more of a replacement for everyday clothing.

While low-rise bottoms have made a comeback in recent years, the underwear as outerwear style of 2022 isn’t about being subtle. It’s the practice of donning one’s underwear outside the bedroom, yet it need not be as scandalous as it sounds.

Ra’el, co-founder and chief creative officer of lingerie brand ThirdLove, claims that the trend of wearing underwear as outerwear has become more relaxed and less shocking over the past several decades.

The band of your underwear is on full display thanks to the trend toward baggy pants, and bras are now being exposed because of the rise of the open-front shirt.

Ra’el suggests soft cotton bras with a crisp open button-down, trousers, and sneakers to make the look more approachable for everyday use. We also like it when women wear just a bralette under a tailored coat or sweater or when they replace their regular T-shirt with a lacy bodysuit before donning their favorite pair of jeans.

It’s about confidence, whether you’re channeling Lily Collins in a mesh turtleneck with a black bra underneath or Christina Aguilera in “Dirrrty” with a bra for a top and chaps over pants.
